Hanqing Zhao (Mr. Han)
Owner, Program Administrator, and Lead Teacher
Mr. Han is the owner and lead educator of Bilingual House. Building on a program that has served Ann Arbor families since 2007, he has guided its transformation into Bilingual House, where bilingual immersion is paired with intentional teaching, strong relationships, and a deep respect for each child’s individual development. Inspired by the kind of bilingual preschool he wished had existed when he was growing up, he has built a learning environment where meaningful relationships, thoughtful routines, joyful exploration, and authentic language experiences are woven into every day.
A graduate of Brigham Young University, Mr. Han has dedicated much of his career to language education. Before leading Bilingual House, he taught English in Shenzhen, China, and later spent two years serving as a volunteer in Taiwan, where he also taught English and developed a deep appreciation for Mandarin language and Chinese culture. After returning to the United States, he taught Mandarin at the Provo Missionary Training Center, where immersive language learning formed the foundation of instruction. Together, these experiences continue to shape the language immersion philosophy that guides Bilingual House today.
As both an educator and program administrator, Mr. Han is actively involved in every aspect of the center’s daily life. He holds the Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential and is currently pursuing the Preschool CDA Credential, reflecting his commitment to continued professional growth and developmentally appropriate early childhood education. He believes young children learn best through meaningful communication, movement, exploration, play, and strong relationships with the caring adults around them. He enjoys building lasting connections with children and families and believes that a strong partnership between home and school provides the best foundation for lifelong learning.
Outside of Bilingual House, Mr. Han enjoys exploring different languages and cultures, reading, and continually learning. He believes that a child’s earliest experiences with language, relationships, and curiosity can shape a lifetime of learning, and that belief continues to inspire both his own professional growth and the vision of Bilingual House.
Minfei Jiang (Ms. Jiang)
Assistant Teacher
Ms. Jiang enjoys helping young children grow through encouragement, positive reinforcement, and joyful learning experiences. She is dedicated to creating a classroom where children feel safe, supported, and confident as they explore the world around them. She believes that young children learn best through kindness, consistency, and positive relationships.
As an educator at Bilingual House, Ms. Jiang especially enjoys teaching children traditional Chinese dances and helping them develop positive habits through encouragement and positive feedback. She finds great joy in watching children build confidence, learn new skills, and celebrate their accomplishments each day.
Outside of the classroom, Ms. Jiang enjoys spending time with her family. As the mother of two young boys, she understands the importance of creating a nurturing environment where children feel loved, respected, and supported as they learn and grow. Her experiences as both a parent and an educator inspire her to care for every child with patience, compassion, and encouragement.
Ms. Jiang believes every child deserves to feel valued and successful. She hopes to inspire children to develop confidence, kindness, and a love of learning while creating joyful memories during their time at Bilingual House.
Yijing He (Ms. He)
Assistant Teacher
Ms. He believes that every child learns at their own pace and enjoys encouraging children as they discover new interests through play. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, English, and Japanese, she is committed to creating a calm, welcoming environment where every child feels safe, valued, and supported.
Before joining Bilingual House, Ms. He earned a master’s degree from Ryukoku University in Kyoto, Japan, and gained teaching experience at a Chinese language school. These experiences strengthened her appreciation for helping children develop a lifelong love of learning. She was inspired to pursue early childhood education after watching her own daughter learn and grow. Becoming a parent deepened her understanding of the importance of the early years and reinforced her belief that children flourish when they are given patience, kindness, and encouragement.
Outside of the classroom, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, taking walks, trying new recipes, and discovering activities she can bring back to the classroom. One of her favorite experiences was raising silkworms with her daughter as a hands-on way to explore nature and the life cycle of insects.
For Ms. He, the most rewarding part of teaching is watching children discover new abilities and grow with confidence. Drawing from both her experience as an educator and as a mother, she is dedicated to helping every child feel encouraged, supported, and excited to learn.
Xiuju Huang (Ms. Huang)
Assistant Teacher
Ms. Huang enjoys creating a warm, encouraging classroom where children feel happy, supported, and excited to learn each day. She believes that every child is unique and finds great joy in watching children learn, play, and grow through new experiences.
She earned her master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University and has several years of experience working with young children through volunteer teaching and classroom support. At Bilingual House, she especially enjoys story time, outdoor play, and science activities, where children can explore, imagine, and discover together.
Ms. Huang describes herself as patient, organized, nurturing, and encouraging. She hopes every child in her classroom feels interested, joyful, welcomed, and confident to explore the world around them.
Outside of the classroom, Ms. Huang enjoys reading and traveling. She also describes herself as a careful observer who enjoys discovering each child’s unique personality and strengths. She values building strong partnerships with families and believes that open communication helps children thrive both at school and at home.
Huijuan Chen (Ms. Jessie Chen)
Assistant Teacher
Ms. Jessie brings warmth, patience, and a love of language and learning to her work at Bilingual House. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Jiangsu Normal University and speaks both Chinese and English. As a mother of two and a Chinese language teacher at a Chinese school, she has developed a deep appreciation for the importance of meaningful communication, encouragement, and positive relationships in children’s lives. She finds particular joy in watching young children grow in confidence, discover new abilities, and explore the world with curiosity and imagination.
In the classroom, Ms. Jessie enjoys story time, outdoor play, and hands-on science exploration. She describes her teaching style as patient, encouraging, and interactive, and strives to create a relaxed and joyful learning environment where children feel comfortable participating, expressing their creativity, and building trusting relationships with others. She especially enjoys sharing Chinese language and culture through engaging activities, traditional stories, and positive encouragement, helping children develop a natural interest in learning Mandarin.
Outside of Bilingual House, Ms. Jessie enjoys traveling, discovering different cultures, and reading picture books with her children. She also loves sharing traditional Chinese stories and doing creative activities with her family. Believing that every child is a unique individual, she finds great fulfillment in celebrating the small milestones that mark each child’s development. She hopes to nurture children’s curiosity, confidence, and love of learning while continuing to grow alongside them as an educator.
Wenhua Chen (Ms. Flora Chen)
Assistant Teacher
With a natural curiosity about the world and a genuine love for working with children, Ms. Flora approaches early childhood education with patience, kindness, and enthusiasm. A graduate of Shanghai University, where she studied mechanical design, she speaks Chinese, Japanese, and English and enjoys exploring different languages and cultures. Her interest in early childhood education comes from a desire to support children’s growth during these important early years. She believes that children thrive when they are surrounded by love, patience, and encouragement, and she finds great joy in helping them discover new things and develop confidence in themselves.
In the classroom, Ms. Flora especially enjoys arts and crafts, science exploration, and circle time. She strives to create a warm, welcoming environment where every child feels safe, respected, and comfortable expressing themselves. With a calm, organized, and encouraging teaching style, she recognizes that every child develops at their own pace and believes in providing the individual attention and support each child needs. She values open communication with families and hopes to make every child’s experience at Bilingual House a happy and meaningful one.
Outside of Bilingual House, Ms. Flora enjoys reading, painting, walking, and traveling. Naturally curious and enthusiastic about learning, she has embraced opportunities to explore new places and develop her English skills since moving to the United States. She hopes to share that same spirit of curiosity with the children in her care, inspiring them to approach the world with confidence, kindness, and a love of discovery.
